The members of the National Fishermen’s Development Group are:
Peter Tyndall – Chair of NFDG
Peter recently retired from BIM after many years of service, fulfilling a number of roles. For the last 15 years he worked as the Area Officer for the Galway region, providing a range of services and advice to fishermen and seafood businesses. He was former manager of the Foyle Fishermen’s Co-op in Greencastle, Co. Donegal and has also fished off north America and worked on oil rigs. He continues to work closely to develop conservation measures with the Galway Bay Inshore Fishermen’s Association and assist fishermen with licensing and tonnage issues. He has been chair of the NFDG since its formation in 2017.
Eddie Moore – NIFA representative
Eddie is a native of Dingle, Co. Kerry and owner-skipper of the MFV Misty Dawn. He fishes a range of inshore species including: potting for brown crab, lobster, and spider crab; dredging for Scallop; gillnetting, trammel netting and tangle netting for whitefish and crayfish. He has been actively representing the interests of inshore fishermen locally and nationally through his role as a founding member of Comharchumainn Gleamaigh Chorca Dhuibhne when it existed and the Chumainn Gleamaigh Chorca Dhuibhne since 2008. He is a former member of the NIFF and south RIFF and is a board member of NIFA.
Bernard Whelan – NIFF representative
Bernard is a native of Clifden, Co. Galway and is involved in bivalve fishing. He is the owner of the MFVs Golden Shore and Lantern. He has a long-term involvement in the management of various clam fisheries and is a current member of the NIFF and west RIFF. He is also a board member of NIFA.
Cara Rawdon – IFPO Representative
Cara is a native of Moville, Co. Donegal and owner-skipper of the whitefish trawler, MFV Catherine-R based in the port of Greencastle. He fishes for species such as cod, haddock, whiting, monkfish, megrim and hake around the Irish coast. He is one of the founding members of the Foyle Fishermen’s Co-op based in Greencastle and is a long-standing member and chair of the IFPO.
Stevie Joyce – IFPO Representative
Stevie is a native of Inis Mór on the Aran Islands, Co. Galway and owner-skipper of the whitefish and pelagic trawler, MFV Oilean an Oir based in the port of Rossaveal. He fishes for prawns and whitefish, as well as seasonally for pelagic species such as mackerel and herring. He is a long-standing member of the IFPO.
Damien Turner – ISWFPO representative
Damien is a native of Castletownbere, Co Cork and owner-skipper of the whitefish, MFV Roise Catriona based in the port of Castletownbere. He fishes for whitefish species such as cod, haddock, whiting and hake mainly on the south coast of Ireland. He is a long-standing member of the Castletownbere Fishermen’s Co-op and is the current chair of the ISWFPO.
Alan Carleton – ISWFPO representative
Alan is a native of Castletownbere, Co. Cork and owner-skipper of the whitefish trawler, MFV Syracuse based in the port of Castletownbere. He fishes for whitefish species including hake, megrim, monkfish, haddock and whiting off the south and south-west coast. He is a member of Castletownbere Fishermen’s Co-op and also the ISWFPO.
David Kirwan – ISEFPO Representative
David is a native of Clogherhead, Co Louth and owner of two freezer trawlers, MFVs Audacious and Virtuous based in the port of Clogherhead. The vessels target principally prawns and whitefish around the coast. David manages the vessels ashore and handles the transport and sales of the catch. He is an active member of the ISEFPO and he sits on the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority Consultative Committee.David also owns and runs a dry stock farm at Grangebellew, Co. Louth, in his spare time.
Caitlin Ui Aodha – ISEFPO representative
Caitlin is a native of Ring, from Co. Waterford and is owner of the MFV Dearbhla, which fishes for prawns around the coast of Ireland. She has been actively involved in the fishing industry for many years and is currently on the board of the Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation. She is also the current chair of LAST (Lost at Sea Tragedies).
Tony Byrne – KFO representative
Tony is a native of Fintra, Co. Donegal and owner of the whitefish trawler, mfv Rachel D based in the port of Killybegs. He fishes for prawns and whitefish, as well as seasonally for pelagic species such as mackerel, herring and sprat. He is a long-standing member of the KFO having served on the board for a number of years.
Adrian McClenghan – KFO representative
Adrian is a native of Greencastle, Co. Donegal and owner-skipper of the whitefish trawler, mfv Northern Celt based in the port of Greencastle. He fishes for species such as cod, haddock, whiting, monkfish, megrim and hake around the Irish coast. He is a member of the Foyle Fishermen’s Co-op and also a member and former board member of the KFO .
Richard Guildea – Independent representative
Richard is native of Balbriggan, Co. Dublin and owner-skipper of the inshore vessel, MFV Solan based in the port of Balbriggan. He fishes for razor clams, prawns and scallops in the North Irish Sea. Richard represented the NIFF on the Monitoring Committee for Seafood Development Programme and also on the northeast razor clam association committee. He is a former chair of NIFA.
Liam O’Sullivan – Independent representative
Liam is a native of Barrow West, Ardfert, Co. Kerry and owner-skipper of the MFV Boy Conor, based in the port of Fenit. He fishes for whitefish and prawns on the south-west and west coast. He also owns an aquaculture vessel, the MFV Valhalla and harvests oysters locally.
Tracey Floyd – Independent representative
Tracey is a native of Howth, Co. Dublin and currently works as a Fishing Trawler Consultant at Dorans Skippers Mate, based in Howth. Dorans Skippers Mate is a consultancy service dedicated to the fishing industry. It provides a service to skippers in keeping the paperwork, safety equipment and crew training up to date as well as an extensive range of services including crew drills and recruitment and work on behalf of the skippers in dealings with the MSO, SFPA, HSA and BIM.
Stephen Conneely- Independent representative
Stephen is a native of Inis Mór on the Aran Islands, Co. Galway and owner-skipper of the freezer trawler, MFV Maria Magdalena III based in the port of Rossaveal. He fishes for prawns and whitefish all-year round. He is a member of Galway and Aran Fishermen’s Co-op.
